Old Lady Hips...

Well it's official... I have old lady hips. Well, not REALLY official, I haven't been to see any body about it or anything, but my hip flexers are killing me! I started doing a workout program called p90x and am actually really enjoying it! My parents got it for Christmas, but they're both training for races right now so they don't use it much. For anyone who doesn't know, it's just a series of dvd's, which is great for me because I can stay home and do it, YAY! I'm really loving the workouts because it's not the same boringness every day. I just chose to stick with the "classic" program at first and this is what my week looks like: Monday-Chest and Back and the Ab Ripper, Tuesday-Plyometrics (which is a killer!!!!!!), Wednesday-Arms and Shoulders and the Ab Ripper, Thursday-Yoga, Friday-Legs and Back (love this one) and the Ab Ripper, Saturday-Kenpo, Sunday-Glorious Break! That's kind of what the real schedule is supposed to be, I've been doing little variations for different reasons. For example last Saturday I did legs (I was a day behind because I started on a Tuesday) and had taken the Ab Ripper back up to my parents (because the whole set is theirs, they're just super nice to let me borrow it!) so I didn't have it, but really wanted to do some abs, so I decided to do the Core Synergistic workout ALSO, which was a very bad idea!!! I was totally exhausted by the time I was done (there are other dvd's that you do the 4th week as kind of a "cool down" week, and the core workout is one of them).

This is the package... Wears me out just looking at it!

And this is Tony, haha. He's kind of annoying at first, but he's growing on me. He tries to be funny which is kind of nice. My very favorite part of the workouts is that there is one move called "Mary Katherine Lunges" and I died laughing when I heard him say that!!! It's a reference to "Superstar" which is a Saturday Night Live movie starring Molly Shannon. Not an easy move, but I get excited when it's time to do it.

Aside from my hips though, there are more problems. I am NOT flexible, which presents serious problems in Yoga. I have no balance, which also presents problems in Yoga (I'm really glad I do this by myself because if anyone were watching me I'd probably die of embarrassment!). One of the biggest problems is that my shoulder on the side that I had surgery on my collar bone kind of bothers me, and I'm really afraid of making it worse. I did chest and back today which involves a ridiculous amount of push-ups, and I try to take it easy, but it always seems like I'm fine in the actual work out, but then it will hurt later. It's driving me crazy. And it's not even like a real "pain" it's more of just like a very annoying, bugging, uncomfortable feeling. Anyways, it's going to be very fun because Dustin and Heather have also started doing it, and Heathers sister and her husband are doing another dvd workout series called "intensity" or something like that. So needless to say, Dustin is making a spreadsheet and we're weighing in every week, and laying down bets. Just kidding about the bets part, but the spreadsheet is true! Should be interesting to see the results after 3 months.

Right now I'm feeling totally devoted to p90x and am slacking in other areas. I have to put together my own exhibition that will be going up toward the first of March, which gives me one month to shoot, develop, scan, composite, print, frame, and hang. I imagine myself working a lot of late nights the week before it's supposed to go up. But it will be exciting, I'll let you know more about it when I know.

As far as work goes, I'm still loving my job. It's just really nice and layed back, which is great for me. I will be assuming a full time position in the summer which will be great! It'll be good pay and we'll have benefits, which we are desperately in need of (like everyone else on the planet). Brig is working for Utah State Security and is enjoying it. He walks around campus and locks doors, so it's nice for him to get to spend some time alone (he likes that sort of thing, haha). He's decided to drop his Spanish minor in an effort to get through school quicker. At this point with everything that's gone on we're not sure where we'll be in a few years, but it sure will be nice to know we're not in school anymore!

A few other fun January events: We celebrated Stocktons first birthday! Casey and Katie decided to make it a tradition to have a cupcake decorating contest when their kids turn one, and it's been a really fun idea!

These are our cupcakes! I forgot my camera, so I stole this picture from Heather (Thanks!). Mine is the lizard in the middle with the fan thing around it's neck, and "Pigs" is the horned toad on the bottom right. We had a good time (at least I did).

One weekend we went to Dustin and Heather's and had a sleepover. We had a really great time watching the OC (good show, despite what anyone else says) and just hanging out. Kade was so cute and was cracking me up the whole time we were there! Thanks for letting us come over guys!

Well that's about it, i've written too much. I'm just sitting here bored at work, so I thought this would be something to keep me occupied. And it did! More to come, probably too much!

  1. Love it! Glad you are having fun with the workout. I'm still at the point where I start to dread the thought of it come 6:00 :) I'm pretty certain you look better than I do when working out with Tony! Hope you are enjoying the OC (have you been able to get some episodes behind you?) I'm sure your picture of the cupcakes would have been superb next to mine but glad I took it so you could use it :)

  2. Thanks Heather! I didn't get a chance to proof read it before i posted it, and I was realizing after that there are a lot of run on sentances and bad grammatical errors, haha. oh well. I was all flustered! I heard you hurt your ankle! I'm so sorry, that sucks. At least you got to skip out on yoga though ;) As far as the OC goes, we've got 2 disks left. It's hard to find time to watch them since I usually do my workouts at night. But it's definitely good! Thanks again for letting us borrow it! Can't wait to see you guys tomorrow! I can't believe dustin will be 28! Crazy!
