Hawaii! Day 6: Hawaii Temple and PCC

I am determined to get this trip all blogged!
Day 6 was a really fun day :)  We took the drive up to Laie and made our first quick stop at the Temple. I had never been there before, obviously, so I wanted to take a few quick pictures!  It was a cloudy morning (as you can see), but the temple and the grounds were still so beautiful.
After stopping by the Temple, we made our way over to the Polynesian Cultural Center!
We took a tour with a tour guide instead of doing our own thing, which was pretty fun.  It's possible that the accompanying meal was the underlying incentive in this....  possibly ;)  Wont mention who's decision it was, exactly ;)
This guy was seriously hilarious!  For anyone unfamiliar with the PCC, the place is separated into sections where there are shows and activities for the many of the different countries that make up the Polynesian islands.  I feel horrible that I can't remember exactly what this island was.  I think Tonga, but I'm not 100% sure.  I guess that's what happens when you blog about something 6 months after it happens.  Anyway, this guy was awesome.  He is doing the Heisman here with a coconut.  I laughed pretty hard :)
We ate YUMMY dessert.  Then we visited a few other islands.  It was so fascinating to learn about the different cultures, and the similarities between them, but especially the differences.
At one point in the day, we sat down to watch a show!  Each island was represented with dancers, who danced on these rafts on the river.  It was so cool!  There were lots of islands, and I took lots of pictures, but I decided to not go all out and just post a few on here ;)  If you think I take a lot of pictures, you should have seen the lady next to me.  Camera was definitely on rapid fire.  I had to laugh.
 New Zealand
Fiji.  This little kid was SO COOL!  I could not believe how good he was at the dances.  I really was blown away, and thought that was awesome.
Tahiti.  These girls shook their hips faster than I knew was possible!

After the show, we went over to Samoa.  This was probably my favorite stop of the day :)
Look!  Participation!!!  It's a good thing Brig doesn't look at this blog, or I'm sure he wouldn't be too happy with me ;)  There was a part in the presentation where the guys were teaching us some hand movements.  They showed us really slowly at first, and then we had to keep doing it faster and faster and faster!  Yep... then this is what happened:
Bahahahahahahaha!  I think this is my favorite picture of the trip!  I about died laughing.  This is my dear husband to a T :)  Love him!
Afterward, the guys chose people from the audience to come up and mimic them on the drums, as well as mimic their crazy sounds.  They chose this guy, who was pretty funny.  A Utahan - I think that says it all.
This guy from Missouri - also pretty funny.
But NO ONE compared to THIS GUY!!!  I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time.  This guy was from Japan (I think), and he was AWESOME! :)
 Yep.  Loved him :)
This is Brig and I with our guide.  She was from Tahiti and was SO gorgeous and friendly.  I know you can't really tell in this picture.  She is studying at BYU-Hawaii and had only been in Hawaii for a short time, so she was still working on her English.  She was so cute :)
We ended the tour part of the day with New Zealand.  I thought those little ball things were fascinating :)  And of course they did the Haka.
Next we enjoyed a SUPER yummy dinner.  Despite the crazy couple next to us that kept yelling at each other in their Jersey accents, we had a really enjoyable time :)
After dinner, we wandered around the shops until the final show.  The show was really amazing.  It showcased dancers from all the different islands, and the Heisman guy from the beginning did this sweet fire dance.  Seriously one of the coolest things I've ever seen!  Plus we got more of that yummy dessert :)  I'm all about the yummy food!
All in all, not a bad day at all :)

  1. This brings back memories! Matt was picked from the audience to be one of the Samoan drum guys and he was pretty funny. He came out with a grass skirt on, tied right around the biggest part of his waist. It was hilarious! I'll have to show you the video I took. I'm glad you enjoyed their food. I was really disappointed with the PCC food. Actually, it wasn't just PCC food. It was all food in Hawaii! I didn't care for it.

  2. Ok, I had to laugh at the picture of Brigham getting confused during the hand thing. Mostly it was because of what you wrote under it - so funny!
